Project designed by Deborrah Henry.

Materials:

one yard of thread - doubled and knotted
#10 millner's needle
variety of silk ribbon ranging from 5/8 inches wide to 2-1/2 inches wide

Steps:

1. Baste the side of a piece of ribbon and gather it slightly(figure A).

2. Pull the ends of the ribbon around until they meet then tack to create a rose shape (figures B and C).

3. Create other types of flowers by bunching ribbon in loops and securing it at the base of the loops. Attach these flowers behind the roses or let them stand alone (figure D).

Ribbon Rose Wreath

Materials:

one, eight-inch wreath dense enough to stick pins into
three, 1-1/2-inch-wide Hanah silk bias-cut ribbon
one yard of 2-1/2-inch wide Hanah silk bias-cut ribbon
3-1/2 yards of 2-1/2-inch wide Mokuba chiffon ribbon
straight pins

1. Wrap the wreath with any width ribbon until the wreath is completely covered. Pin the ribbon in place.

2. Attach one end of a piece of chiffon to the wreath with a pin. Twist and wrap around the wreath, leaving spaces in between the twists.

3. Create a double bow by making two ribbon bows and pinning them together. Pin the bow at the top of the wreath.

4. Make a variety of ribbon roses and other flowers in different shapes, sizes and colors (figures E and F) and attach them to the wreath with straight pins.

Tips:

  • Choose ribbon colors with a variety of value from light, medium-light, medium, medium-dark and dark.

  • Choose colors that complement each other or completely contrast each other by using a color wheel.

  • Use a variety of flowers made from different colors and widths of ribbons, then construct the wreath from large flowers to small flowers or small flowers to large flowers.
