Materials:

large sheet of colorful construction paper
construction paper that matches child 's skin tone
margarine lid or small plate
scissors
pencil
clear tape
markers, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, glue, etc.

Steps:

1. Using colored paper that matches the child's skin tone, cut a five-inch circle. A margarine lid or a small plate makes a good template for this.

2. Using a pencil and paper color that matches the child's skin tone, trace around one of the child's hands. Cut out the hand tracing. Then cut a second hand, using the first as a template.

Figure A: folding paper to the center.
3. Cut a 4" x 11" strip of colorful construction paper. Find the center of the 11-inch length of the strip then fold each end toward the center, stopping 1/2 inch away from the center (figure A).

4. Unfold the strip. Position a hand at each end of the strip, taping the hand to secure it.

5. Use markers, crayons, pencils, construction paper, glue, etc. to decorate the five-inch circle so it resembles the child's face. Add hair, eyes, nose and don't forget to include a smile!
