Napkin Note Paper

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-104 -- More Projects »
Carol encourages recycling as she invents whimsical note paper from paper napkins.

Notecards

Materials:

2- or 3-ply napkins with designs
heavy duty plasitc wrap
blank note cards

Steps:

  1. Lay heavy duty plasitc wrap on the outside of the note card you wish to use.
  2. Peel off the top layer of napkin (the layer with the design) and lay it over the heavy duty plasitc wrap on the card.
  3. With a warm iron, press the top of the napkin until it is laminated to the card.
  4. Cut off any excess napkin.
Envelope

Materials:

scrap or used envelope that will accommodate the size of your intended note paper or card
stiff paper such as a file folder or lightweight, flexible cardboard
magazine pages or other design source
scissors or craft knife
pen or pencil
white glue
water
vinegar
small paint brush

Steps:

  1. Take apart the commercial envelope. Unfold and trace the shape onto cardboard or stiff paper. Cut along the outline to produce the envelope template.
  2. Using a scrap magazine page or other paper, trace the template, cut, and fold to test the size against the note card or paper. Adjust as necessary.
  3. When the final size is determined, trace and cut out the paper that will become the envelope.
  4. Fold up and glue the bottom and side flaps with a small amount of white glue.
  5. To create the "adhesive" on the top flap, brush on a solution of 2 parts white glue to 1 part vinegar. Allow to dry. This will work just as well as the glue on commercial envelopes you find in stationery stores. Just lick, stick, and send!
