Cast Paper Artist

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-1116 -- More Projects »
The Carol Duvall Show cameras focus on Marsh Scott, an artist who creates wall sculptures that are elegant yet bold. The geometric compositions look as if they are cast in stone but surprisingly, they're made of paper. Metal, acrylic, bamboo, rattan and suede are also used as embellishments.

The process begins with papermaking. Each thick, textured piece is a single piece of paper. To make it, Scott blends compressed cotton fiber with water, then pours the pulp into custom molds that create the texture. While the paper is still wet and heavy, it is drained and dried over a period of days or weeks. Once dry, each piece is primed on both sides to seal and stiffen it then it's backed with fabric. Once solid, Scott uses a band saw to create the unusual shapes. Her final step is to paint and add embellishments.
