Use ribbon to create this uniquely shaped treatment.
Materials:

fabric of choice
ribbon (at least 1" wide)
thread
needle
pins
simple extension rod
tape measure

Steps:

  1. Start by measuring the outside dimensions of your window. Cut your fabric to the outside dimensions , plus five inches on the length and on the width (you may want to add more to the width, depending on how wide you want your rod to be). Cut your ribbon to the length of the window. Note: If you have a short window, you may want to add some length to your fabric if you want a really full, gathered look.
  2. Now place a simple 3/4-inch hem on all sides of your fabric (you can use iron- on hem tape if you wish!). Now take the top of your fabric, and turn it down approximately 3-1/2 inches and stitch it--this gives you a pocket for your curtain rod. Now take your ribbon, and fold it in half lengthwise. Place it at the center of the top of your fabric, and stitch it to the same place you stitched your rod pocket seam.
  3. Thread the fabric on the rod, and attach to the wall. Starting at the bottom , gather up the fabric until you have about 2/3 of it gathered. Pulling the ribbon from behind, tie a decorative bow with the front ribbon. Let the fabric fall--if you want your treatment to hang lower or higher, adjust your bow accordingly.
  4. When you are done, you may wish to trim your ribbon to a shorter length if you think it would look better. You can also do this treatment with two ribbons attached 1/3 the way in from either side at the top as well.
