Sew Perfect : Episode SEW-702 -- More Projects »
Double the Distance - Anytime you want to turn an edge and topstitch, try this trick. Draw a chalk line double the distance of seam width you desire. For instance, if you want a 1/2-inch seam, double that to 1-inch and draw a chalk line 1-inch along the fabric edge. Working in between the chalk line and the edge of the fabric, place glue on the fabric using a water-soluble glue stick. Fold fabric edge over to just meet the chalk line. Don't cover the line, just meet it. Fold and press as you go to make fabric adhere to itself. Work quickly because the glue will dry fast. Press, then topstitch. The glue holds the fabric in place while you stitch and comes out easily in the wash.
