Smart Solution of the Day

Loren Ruch demonstrates an inventive way to decorate jeans, using automatic dishwashing detergent and bleach.

Materials:

pair of jeans
bleach
automatic dishwashing detergent
squeeze bottle or a fabric-paint container with a fine tip
wax paper

Steps:

1. To achieve the look of unevenly bleached jeans, simply mix equal parts of bleach and automatic dishwashing detergent.
   
   
2. Put the mixture into a squeeze bottle or a fabric-paint container with a fine tip and mix well.
   
   
3. Line the inside of the jeans with a piece of wax paper to prevent the solution from bleeding through to the back of the jeans.
   
   
4. Draw on the jeans with the mixture, let it sit for five to 20 minutes and wash in the machine as usual. Be sure to wash the jeans by themselves to avoid damaging other clothes. This technique avoids splashing and allows complete control of the bleach art.
