Shirt Gowns, Caps

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-158 -- More Projects »
Carol demonstrates some of the terrific ideas she's received from viewers, including a cheerful hospital gown made from a T-shirt and an inexpensive project that can keep your marker caps where they belong.

T-Shirt Get-Well Gown
  1. Draw a line down the middle of the back of theT-shirt. You will cut the T-shirt on this line later in the project to create the open back of your gown.
  2. On each side of the line you drew, sew a column of stitches from the collar to the bottom of the shirt.
  3. Sew pieces of ribbon onto the back of the shirt about a quarter inch away from each side of the line. Make sure the ribbons line up with each other and are long enough to tie the back of the gown together when it is worn.
  4. Sew a 1/2-inch wide piece of ribbon over column of stitches you sewed in Step 2. This ribbon should cover the places where you tacked down ribbon "ties" Step 3 so that your gown has a more finished look.
  5. Cut along the line you drew in Step 1 to complete the gown.
Cap Keepers
  1. Fill an empty cam or lid with Plaster of Paris.
  2. After the plaster has dried enough to support the weight of a marker, place markers in the plaster cap-first so that just the cap of the marker is in the plaster. The rest of the marker should stick straight up from the container.
  3. After the plaster dries, you not only have the benefit of never losing your caps again, but also, your markers should last longer since they will be stored in a position that will keep their tips filled with ink.
