Sweaters From Sweatshirts

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-120 -- More Projects »
Using nothing more than a no-sew kit, a plain sweatshirt, and gold dimensional paint, Carol conceives a chic, open-front cardigan. How did she do it?

First, Carol ironed the grosgrain ribbon onto the middle of the sweatshirt. Next, she cut down the middle of the sweatshirt to create the open front. She then demonstrated how to applique the design according to the manufacturer's instructions, and recommended outlining the affixed appliques with gold dimensional paint. This was done not only to ensure that the appliques stay on the shirt, but also to enhance the overall design.

In addition to the Sunny Sunflowers design that Carol performed, dog and cat appliques are available from the same company. The kits include suggested placement of the appliques, which are attached by ironing on the fusible webbing, or you can mix-and-match or rearrange the appliques to create a unique design. The kits also include a pair of pockets that match the rest of the design.
