Project designed by Mary O'Neil.

Materials:

Hot Potatoes rubber stamps
all-cotton sweatshirt
Deka fabric paint
water in dishes
foam paintbrushes
masking tape
patience

Steps:

  1. Mask off areas of the sweatshirt, pressing the masking tape down firmly.
  2. Thin a small amount of Deka paint with water. Brush the paint inside the masked area. Alternate colors to add interest.
  3. If you are painting the entire shirt one color, spray lightly with water, then apply paint. This gives an overall watercolor effect.
  4. After painting several areas, remove the tape. Remask over the painted areas and paint in new areas until there is no white space left on the shirt.
  5. Sometimes the paint will "bleed" through the masking tape, often creating interesting patterns. If you do not like the "bleed" look, stamp over it.
  6. Stamp designs in the painted areas.
Note: This shirt turned out so well that the last time it was seen was on Carol Duvall herself!
