From HobbyWare is something called Pixel Hobby that I found a bit tricky to explain but great fun to work with. When I first saw some of the completed Pixel pictures, I thought they were needlepoint, but on closer viewing I realized that no yarn was involved. Instead of canvas and yarn, everything is plastic, and what I thought were stitches were small plastic plugs (pixels) that come in 300 different colors. The "canvas" is a small plastic square with many many holes that would be comparable to the spaces between the threads in a canvas. You work from a pattern similar to a needlepoint pattern, but instead of taking stitches, you fill in the holes with the plugs of the color indicated on the pattern. I found it to be fun to watch the picture develop and think it would be a great pastime for the youngsters...at least those old enough to handle the tiny pixels. The company has many pictures to choose from, but you can also use your own pictures by using your computer and the software available from the company.
