Lisa Chouinard had always been artistic, and fixing computers for a living, she really needed some kind of creative outlet. She hadn’t really focused on any one art form so she bought a candle-making kit, which then led to soap making. She eventually bought out the local craft store of every soap-making mold, colorant, and fragrance they had in stock! These days, when she’s not knitting, crocheting or swing dancing (the lindy hop is her specialty!), she is spearheading a local networking group for Houston area crafters.

Steps:

Lemon Bar Soap

1. Chop clear and white soap base into 1 inch pieces with a kitchen knife (figure A).

2. Weigh the soap base on a kitchen scale in a microwavable container (figure B). You will need one pound of clear soap and one pound of white soap.

3. Microwave the clear and white soap for six minutes to melt the bases together.

4. Add yellow colorant to the melted soap base, stirring to blend.

5. Add a few drops of lemon fragrance to the melted soap base.

6. Pour the liquid lemon soap into the mold through a kitchen sieve (figure C). Let it cool for an hour.

7. Unmold the lemon soap and chop it into bars. Sprinkle a little cornstarch on top for realistic-looking lemon bars (figure D).
