At the age of eight, Louise Richer of Pembroke Pines, Fla., was already sewing a line of clothing for her dolls. She then branched out into jewelry and also found a market selling her artwork to her neighbors. But this imaginative crafter's latest inspiration is incorporating her scrapbooking techniques into clever three-dimensional shadow boxes.

Materials:

1 sheet of 12" x 12" stripes patterned paper
1 sheet of 12" x 12" polka dots patterned paper
1 sheet of 12" x 12" blue swirl patterned paper
1 sheet of 12" x 12" lime green solid color paper
1 sheet of black cardstock for photo mounting
1 12" x 12" white cardstock to paint for the printing of the vellum
1 12" x 12" white vellum sheet
1 piece of heavy cardboard for shaker box
water

3 black and white photos (3 of the same photos in color)
small piece of foam board
1 large sand dollar
alphabet rubber stamps
inkpad
pop up dots
mounting tape
double sided tape
vellum tape
jewelry glue
miniature seashells
1 mini sand dollar
sand
letter beads and small white beads
embroidery floss
2 green eyelets
eyelet setting tools
scissors
die cut machine
die cut pattern

sandpaper for distressing paper
1 beach rub-on decal

Steps:

1. Choose photos and make two copies of each, one black and white, and one color.

2. Choose papers, both patterned and solid color.

3. Distress solid color paper with sandpaper, then tear the edges and position on top of patterned paper (figure A).

4. Paint a design on the white cardstock to make printed vellum (figure B).

5. When the paint is dry, scan and copy the painting onto the vellum paper (figure C). Cut out a strip of the vellum and position it over the left side of the green, distressed paper.

6. Choose a part of the color picture to accentuate and cut out that square.

7. Mount the color photo square on black cardstock.

8. Mount the black and white photo on black cardstock.
