Kick off your shoes and slip your feet into a pair of fun furry slippers. Plush fur scraps and pom-poms turn plain slippers into a pair of kittens or puppies.

Materials:

slippers
plush fur scraps
sewing machine
white thread
sewing needle
straight pins
2 medium pom-poms (noses)
4 small black and 4 tiny white pom-poms (eyes)
fiber filling
tapestry needle
embroidery floss: brown, black

Steps:

1. Cut eight plush ears and then pair them right sides together (figure A).

2. Pin the fabric layers together and then machine stitch around all four ears, leaving the bottom edges open. Turn each ear right side out. If necessary use the tapestry needle point (or seam ripper) to loosen any fur fibers trapped in the seam (figure B).

3. Stuff each ear with filling and then hand-sew two ears to the top of each slipper (figure C).

4. Using a tapestry needle and the entire thickness of black embroidery floss, stitch a mouth through the toe of each slipper. Make a two-stitch "V" on either side for the mouth and a single stitch up the center that leads to the nose (figure D).

5. For the whiskers, knot the floss 2 inches from the end and then stitch from one side of the slipper to the other. Pull the floss through so the knot holds the first whisker in place. Make a second knot where the floss comes back out through the slipper and then trim the floss 2 inches from the knot. Repeat the process to make a second set of whiskers on the first slipper (figure E) and both sets of whiskers on the second slipper.

6. Glue a brown pom-pom nose and two black and white pom-poms eyes on each slipper. Push a straight pin down through the top white pompoms on the eyes and the brown pompom noses to anchor them in place while the glue dries overnight (figure F). Remember to remove all pins before wearing!
