Materials:
quilt
purchased quilt hanger
fine grade sandpaper
primer
acrylic paints and brushes
painter's tape

Steps:

Straight Border Quilt Hanger


  1. Sketch out a design for the hanger, letting the pattern in quilt inspire the motif.

  • To make stamps, cut shapes from a block of stamping medium (figure A).

  • Coat one side of the cutout and press on the hanger to stamp a design (figure B).

  • Combine two or more colors of acrylic paint to create a different look. Use painter's tape to create masked designs. Fill in details with smaller stamps (figure C).


    Fringe or Lace Border Quilt Hanger


    1. Find length of lace that coordinates with the quilt.

  • Staple the lace to the back of the hanger (figure D).

  • Pull lace over front of hanger and apply decoupage glue to lace to adhere it to the front of the hanger (figure E), making sure to coat evenly since the glue will leave a gloss finish.

  • Let the glue or paint dry. Hang and attach the quilt.
