Project by April Cutrell from Mesa, Ariz.

April has been a house painter and paint contractor for over 10 years. She has enjoyed working with her hands and loves the creative part of deciding what she is going to make. About three years after she started painting, she began working with polymer clay. After playing and trying new designs, April found a way to design jewelry for herself, like this flower pendant.

Materials:

polymer clay
pigment powder
ink
jewelry wire
beads
mold for shape
rolling pin
clay tools
oven
drill
pasta machine
pliers
wire cutters

Steps:

1. Gather scraps of clay together to make a ball. Roll 1-inch ball of clay through pasta machine three times to soften.

2. Dust mold with powder, push clay into mold and roll over with rolling pin. Remove clay flower from mold.

3. Cut excess clay from around the flower smooth with fingers. Bake according to clay manufacturer's instructions and let cool.

4. Drill hole for hanging parts (with cordless drill). File with emery board.

5. Paint with acrylic paint. Ink raised veins of flower with opposite color with ink roller and color wheel.

6. Dust with pigment powder.

7. Apply sealer to back let dry. Apply sealer to front let dry.

8. Select beads and string. Add flower pendant and add magnetic clasp.
