Host Alex Anderson and long-arm quilting professional Marilyn Badger discuss Badger's suggestions for preparing a quilt to be long-arm quilted.
- Make sure that all seams are stitched securely with no seams left unstitched.
- An accurate 1/4-inch seam allowance is important. The long-arm quilting machine pulls the fabric taut and is stretched; if the seams are not strong and accurate, the long-arm machine will pull the seams apart.
- Provide a backing fabric that is at least six inches larger on all sides of the quilt top.
- Allow the long-arm machine quilter to choose the batting. Long-arm quilting machines can be harsh on certain battings.
- Meticulously press the seams and the quilt top.
- Make sure there is no pet hair on the quilt top.
