So Black and Blue is a portrait quilt of Louis Armstrong produced from a photograph.

In 1995 fiber artist Lauren Camp began her "Fabric of Jazz" quilt portrait series. Her fondness for listening to jazz music contributes both to a sense of contentment and to the development of these quilted portraits. Camp researches each jazz musician's life prior to creating a portrait. Next, she drafts an acetate drawing from a photograph, outlining the basic shapes to be formed from the fabric. Next, she applies fusible web to the fabric and cuts the pieces out, machine-appliqueing the quilts. Her finished portrait quilts are like music for the eyes.
