Steps:

1. Turn the raw edges of the green jacquard ribbon and the plain green or pink ribbon up 1/4 inch and fuse together with edges on the inside (figure A).

2. Glue or stitch a flower lace appliqué to the front of the green jacquard ribbon (figure B).

3. Using 3-1/2 inches of the 1-inch pink ombre ribbon for each flower, make three fuchsias. Fold this ribbon so the raw edges overlap by 1/4 inch. Sew three stamens to the center of the overlapped area. Sew the diamond stitch pattern (figure C). Gather the stitching tightly until a flower shape is formed (figure D). Do not cut the thread.

4. Bring the thread through the top of the flower and bead the thread with seed beads until about 1 inch of the thread is covered.

5. Sew the beaded fuchsia to the base of the bookmark (figure E). Repeat for each fuchsia.

Steps:

1. Apply fusible material to the backs of the green jacquard ribbon and the two plain green ribbons. Remove the waxed paper backing after fusing has cooled and set aside.

2. Lay the two pieces of silk fabric together on top of each other and flat on the table. Center the book you are covering over the fabric. Fold the fabric around the book just as you would a paper dust jacket (figure F). Trim 1 inch off the top edge of the fabric and 1 inch off the bottom edge of the fabric.

3. While the fabric is still on the book, center the green jacquard ribbon over the front cover and pin in place. Place the plain green ribbons to either side of the jacquard ribbon (figure G). Pin in place and remove fabric with ribbons from the book. Fuse these ribbons to one piece of the silk fabric.

4. Lay the two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew around all four edges, leaving a 5-inch opening for turning (figure H).

5. Turn the fabric right sides out. Press. Hand-stitch opening closed.

6. Fit the cover around the book as you would a dust jacket. The ends of the fabric should overlap and wrap around the book edges by about 1-1/2-inch or so. Hand-stitch the edges of these overlapped ends so a pocket is formed, one for the front cover and one for the back cover (figure I).

7. Glue one daisy flower lace appliqué to the front of the green jacquard ribbon, and two rosebud appliqués to each of the two plain green 5/8-inch-wide ribbons (figure J).

8. Make two fuchsias: Using 3 inches of the 1-inch-wide pink ribbon for each flower, make three fuchsias. Fold this ribbon so the raw edges overlap by 1/4 inch. Sew three stamens to the center of the overlapped area. Sew the diamond stitch pattern. Gather the stitching tightly until a flower shape is formed.

9. Stitch each fuchsia to the jacquard ribbon in a pleasing composition (figure K). Embellish with other beads and leaves as desired.

10. Sew two ribbon tapes using the 3/8-inch-wide green ribbon, one at the front and one at the back, of the slipcover. This is the bow closure for the slipcover. Stitch one fuchsia to each of the ribbon tapes.
