Materials and Tools:

wooden bead
fine sandpaper
Krylon Workable Fixatif
pencil or dowel
Treasure Crystal Cote
paint brush
Judikins Deco circle stamp #2238G
Ancient Page permanent black inkpad
Vivid dye ink pads: yellow, sky blue, violet mist
Color Dusters
sheet of 20# white copy paper
Perfect Paper Adhesive
foam brush
dish for the glue
black medium-tip permanent marker
various yarn
small piece of cording
cardboard
scissors

Steps:

1. Sand the glossy finish off a wooden bead.

2. Stamp an image onto white copy paper with a permanent black ink.

3. Put a little Perfect Paper Adhesive into a dish and dilute it so that it is half water and half glue. Tear the stamped image into little pieces and use the foam brush to glue them to the bead.

4. Use the back of your nail or a bone folder to press the seams down. You want the glued papers to be really flat.

5. When dry, stipple dye ink onto the bead to color it.

6. Color the ends of the bead with a marker.

7. Seal the bead with the Fixatif.

8. Coat the bead with Treasure Crystal Cote or a high-gloss coating of your choice. Let dry 24 hours.

9. To make the tassel: Cut a piece of cardboard to the length that you want the tassel to be. Wrap it with yarn several times around.

10. Tie a cord around the fibers and cut them off the cardboard. Slip through the bead and you are done!

Tips:

Use gel pens, metallic ink pens and permanent markers to color the bead in detail.

If you stamp a lady's face, be sure to color the eye white with a white pen. It will wake her up instantly and make your picture prettier.

You can braid a cord of the same yarn to match the tassel instead of using a purchased cord.

These beads make great jewelry too.

Try this same technique on all types of wooden shapes. Even finials look really cool done in this manner.
