Project by Emilie Autumn from Chicago, Ill.
As a young girl, Emilie split her time between learning the violin and flying about the house dressed as a fairy. As a young adult, rock-n-roll found its way into her music, and today Emilie can be found rocking out with her violin on stages all over Chicago--even backing up national acts on tour! Emilie's Megami* sushi roll soap combines skin-nourishing ingredients with a natural melt-and-pour soap base and then rolls them up in a piece of Nori seaweed to create a bar of facial soap that looks just like your favorite Japanese delicacy.
* Megami means Goddess in Japanese.
Materials:
Nori seaweed
all-natural melt-and-pour soap base
essential oils: seaweed, lime, clary sage, rosemary, geranium
soy protein
jojoba oil
soy milk powder
ground rice
ground adzuki beans
sea salt
baking pan
bowl
wire whisk
measuring utensils
bamboo sushi mat
microwave
Steps:
1. Cut a pound of soap base into cubes. Melt the soap base in a bowl in a microwave for 1 minute and 20 seconds.
2. While the soap is melting, line the baking pan with Nori seaweed.
3. Remove melted soap from microwave and whisk in additives (soy protein, jojoba oil, soy foam booster, soy milk powder).
4. Stir in exfoliants (ground rice, ground adzuki beans, sea salt--all items can be ground individually in a coffee grinder!).
5. Whisk in essential oils (seaweed oil, lime oil, clary sage oil, rosemary oil, geranium oil).
6. Freeze soap base for 10 minutes.
7. Pour thickened soap into seaweed-lined baking pan. Let cool for 1 minute to harden slightly.
8. Remove soap-covered seaweed slab from pan and place on bamboo sushi mat, seaweed side down.
9. Roll up the slab jelly-roll style from one side to the other.
10. Place soap roll in freezer for 10 minutes to solidify completely.
11. Remove roll from freezer and place on cutting board. Slice into individual sushi roll soaps.
