Gardner Cottage
As the owner of two boutiques in Charlottesville, Virginia, Amy Gardner wanted a home where she could escape the visually stimulating atmosphere of the retail world. She bought a small cottage, restructured it with the help of architects from four rooms into two and created a serene home where she can live the quiet life.

Quiet Living Room
The space is defined by furniture rather than by walls. The kitchen and living room are open to each other, with a large island separating each space. An under-the-counter fridge and no cabinetry on the walls help the kitchen blend in with the living space. A dropped panel on the ceiling also helps to define the dining area. After cleaning up the original wainscoting, Gardner added a ledge on which she displays her ever-changing, casual art installation.
