Jeen Brown, of Wimpole Street Creations, discusses the history of Battenburg lace and shows Carol various shaped lace doilies created by Wimpole, including: inset lace used to decorate a sweat shirt, frames, collars, table linens and an angel doll. She also demonstrates her step-by-step method for making a lace dove to go on the beautiful lace birdhouse that is on display:
- Use a round doily for the body and 2 heart-shaped doilies for the wings.
- Fold round doily in half, trace on bird shape and stitch.
- Trim fabric to 1/8" from stitching line.
- Turn inside out and stuff with Poly-fil.
- Stitch around with white thread.
- Fold heart in half, insert Poly-fil and stitch.
- Do same for other wing.
- Hand-sew hanger.
- Hand-sew wings to body.
- Sew on buttons for eyes.
Brown uses lace to dress a Bitti Bunnie. First, she stitches a long strip of fabric into a tube. Then, she takes a yard of satin-edge ribbon and stitches it along the tube. Next, she gathers the fabric for the bunny's dress, cuts the lace at the center, and slips the dress over the bunny's head. Numerous Bitti Bunnie projects are mentioned, such as Santa, the Tooth Fairy, a Butterfly, Cornelius Corn Cobb, Trick-or-Treat and a Graduate bunny.
