Mike's Wooden Table

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-234 -- More Projects »
Carol shows how to make tables from branches and plywood, like those constructed by her son, Michael. The only tools and materials required are four thick tree branches, a saw, two sheets of plywood, wood glue, paint or stain, a drill and screws.

To make sure that there aren't any insects on the branches, do the following:

  • Put small branches in the microwave for a few minutes
  • Put larger sticks in the freezer.
  • Place very large pieces in a plastic bag containing moth balls and place the bag in the garage for several weeks.
Steps:
  1. Saw branches into 2-foot lengths
  2. Cut two pieces of plywood, one slightly larger than the other, for the table top.
  3. Drill holes in the table top where the legs will be attached.
  4. Use screws to attach the branch legs to the smaller table top.
  5. Hot-glue or use wood glue to attach the larger sheet of plywood to the smaller base, being sure to cover the screw tops.
  6. When the glue is dry, sand all surfaces.
  7. Paint or stain as desired.
