Checkerboard Challenge

Author and expert crafter Kathy Lamancusa joins Carol to demonstrate how to make a hand-decorated checkerboard for Dad.

Materials:

sandpaper
Walnut Hollow Two-Heart Checkerboard
heart-shaped checkers (with checkerboard, above)
Design Master Glossy Wood Tone
Americana craft paint from DecoArtB.
paint brushes
wooden hearts
wood burner
Poxy Pouch from Loctite
Blair Spray Clear Acrylic Coating

Steps:

1. Sand the board and the checkers.
2. Following the directions on the can, spray the board with Design Master Glossy Wood Tone.
3. Paint the squares and the checkers with DecoArt Americana one-coat finish.
4. Use the wood burner to embellish the wooden hearts with designs.
5. Following the directions on the Loctite Poxy Pouch, attach the hearts to the board.
6. Spray the entire board and the checkers with Blair Spray Clear Acrylic Coating to seal and protect the set.
