Pam Hastings, from Butterick/Vogue, shares some examples of homemade wedding dresses made from Vogue and Butterick patterns. The dresses are similar to those available in boutiques for thousands of dollars but are made for a fraction of the cost. She also highlights coordinating veils.

Figure A, above: The first gown was made from a pattern designed by internationally known wedding gown designer Vera Wang. In a designer salon, this gown could be as much as $10,000 , but you can make it yourself for a fraction of that cost. This gown features French seams finishes and seam binding.

Figure B, above: This simple but elegant gown features a lovely full tulle skirt. The hardest part about working with tulle is the hem, but decorative edge stitching is a simple way to handle that problem.
