Designed Stamped Pillow

That's Clever! : Episode HCLVR-133 -- More Projects » (Continued from Page 1)
Printing on Fabric

1) Choose 100 percent cotton base fabric in any color. Note: Guest recommends using a quilter's cotton fabric for a smooth texture.

2) Wash the material in cold water and iron. Do not use fabric softener or starch.

3) Make a test print on a swatch of fabric to test out the ink color and texture. This will give you a feel for printing on fabric and determine how hard you will need to press.

4) Choose a section of fabric for the print. Note: Do not cut the fabric; you want to print on it first then cut the fabric for the pillow.

5) Ink the stamp and press into the fabric on a hard surface.

6) Pull up a small corner of the stamp to see if the image transferred. If you are satisfied, then lift the stamp carefully.

7) You now have a piece of fabric with the drawing on it (figure E).

Making the Pillow

1) Carefully measure the image, fold the fabric in two and cut 1/2 inch around the border, leaving enough room to sew (figure F).

2) Make sure you have two pieces of fabric for the top and bottom of the pillow.

3) Put right sides together and stitch using a 1/2 inch seam allowance around the outside of the pillow, leaving about a 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch opening at the end for turning and stuffing (figure G).

4) Turn the pillow right side out and stuff the pillow with polyester filling.

5) Hand-sew the opening closed.
