Sunflower Cookies

Simple and sweet, these sunflower cookies taste as great as they look!
Charming sunflower cookies that are easy for kids to make as gifts for teachers, grandparents, Mother's Day or just for fun.

Materials:

pre-made sugar cookie dough
sunflower-shaped cookie cutter
cookie Sheet
yellow food dye
green food dye
candy sticks or small wooden dowels
coconut
chocolate chips
florist or craft foam
terracotta pot
ribbon

Steps:

1. Add yellow dye to plain sugar cookie dough and roll several small, walnut-sized balls for the centers of the sunflowers. Place on an insulated, even-bake cookie sheet and insert a stick into each (figure A).

2. Cut sunflower shapes from remaining cookie dough and position centered over the balls from step 1.

3. Press chocolate chips onto centers (figure B).

4. Bake according to recipe instructions.

5. Put a square of foam into the bottom of a small terra cotta flower pot.

6. Dye coconut with green food coloring and sprinkle it into the pot as the "grass." Stick flower "stems" into the coconut and foam (figure C).
