Christmas cupcake
When it comes to baking, frequent Carol Duvall Show guest and expert baker Zella Junkin has ideas galore for dressing up cookies, cakes and other treats. Here, she suggests imaginative adornments to transform the simplest cupcake into a professional-looking baked tribute to kids, adults, and holidays.

Materials For Cupcakes
Rose: #104 rose tip, rose nail, tip #67 or #352 leaf tip
Garden: chocolate chip cookie crumbs, #21 star tip, #352 leaf tip, wooden skewer, garden tool candles
Western: granulated brown sugar, bite-sized cookie cutters with a Western motif - have been discontinued, use any desired cookie cutter design
Circus: Clown - #21 star tip, small derby clown heads; Balloon - #10 and #3 round tips
Sports: Baseball - #47 tip, baseball icing decoration; Football - #3 round tip, football icing decoration
Seasonal: Halloween - #3 round tip, bat icing decoration Easter - #233 grass tip, #2 and #8 round tip, egg icing decor Valentine's Day - #4 round tip Christmas - #3 and #2 round tip, #16 star tip

Steps
All designs are made on cupcakes that have been iced smooth.

Rose

  1. Ice white.
  2. Make pink roses using rose tip and rose nail.
  3. Place rose in center of cupcake using scissors.
  4. Add ruffles using tip #104.
  5. Add green leaves using tip #352.

Garden

  1. Ice chocolate.
  2. Sprinkle iced cupcake surface with chocolate cookie crumbs.
  3. Make star flowers using #21 star tip and let dry.
  4. Attach to skewer using royal icing.
  5. Add leaves using tip #352.
  6. Arrange flowers and garden tool candles on cupcake.

Western

  1. Cut and bake cookies using Western-style cookie cutters - have been discontinued, use any desired cookie cutter.
  2. Ice cooled cookies with thinned royal icing.
  3. Ice cupcake with white icing.
  4. Sprinkle iced cupcake surface with brown sugar.
  5. Place cookies on cupcake.

Circus

  1. Ice cupcake with white icing.
  2. Pipe body and arms onto cupcake using yellow and orange icing and tip #21.
  3. Place clown head.
  4. Pipe balloons using tip #10. Pipe balloon strings using tip #3.

SPORTS
Ice cupcakes with green icing.

Baseball:

  1. Use tip #47 to pipe diamond shaped field.
  2. Add glove icing decoration.

Football:

  1. Use tip #3 to pipe goal posts.
  2. Add football icing decoration.

SEASONAL

Halloween:

  1. Ice cupcakes with violet tinted icing.
  2. Use tip #3 to pipe three circles.
  3. Using a small spatula or a knife, draw back and forth through circles to form a web.
  4. Add bat icing decoration.

Easter:

  1. Using tip #233, pipe a green nest.
  2. Using tip #8, pipe yellow chicks. Pipe beaks using tip #2.
  3. Add egg icing decorations.

Valentine's Day:

  1. Ice cupcakes with white icing.
  2. Pipe red hearts using tip #4.

Christmas:

  1. Ice cupcakes using white icing.
  2. Using tip #3, pipe green Christmas trees.
  3. Add ornaments using tip #2 and star tip #16.
