Arrowmont School Of Arts

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-109 -- More Projects »
Host Carol Duvall welcomes Academy Award winner Eileen Heckart to the show. Eileen, an alumnae of Pi Beta Phi, talks about her organization's connection with what is now the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Pi Beta Phi started Arrowmont as a settlement school in the early 1900s. Today, this school's teachings incorporate the artisanship indigenous to the area, which has been passed down through many generations.

Numerous crafts developed at the school and by other regional artisans are available at Arrowcraft stores, the official retail outlets of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. The Guild is a nine-state regional nonprofit craft education and marketing organization, operating four retail outlets in North Carolina and Tennessee, and selling the work of its 700-plus members. The largest selection of Arrowcraft pieces, however, may be found at the school.
