This early toaster didn't use electricity. It sat over the burner on a stove and usually burned the toast.

From antiquated elegance to streamline art deco, old toasters are the new rage with designers, according to Ralph. Some are even being reproduced by modern-day manufacturers.

This toaster sold for around $4.50 off the store shelf in 1922. If condition dictates, it could sell for as much as $100 today. Roland restores these old toasters by disassembling them, then hand polishing with a buffing wheel and a series of jigs.

In the 1930s, toasters evolved into decorative pieces for the breakfast table. This one has a price tag of $285.
