Children like to give their mothers with gifts of jewelry, but instead of buying it, creativity expert John Thomas suggests making it--with the help of Dad. Jewel & Gem Goop
Materials:
2 cups rock salt
6 to 8 drops food coloring
1/2 cup white glue
bobby pin
yarn or string
Steps:
- Put rock salt in a medium-size bowl, add food coloring of choice, then stir in the color.
- Pour the glue on top of the salt in the bowl, then stir. The mixture should become rubbery.
- Shape the "goop" into beads. Set aside for a couple of hours until they become firm.
- Poke through the beads with a bobby pin to string the yarn through. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
Java-Dough Pins Materials:
2 cups flour
1/2 cup instant-coffee grounds
1/2 cup salt
3/4 cup warm water
1 Tbs. water
several drops of food coloring
paintbrushes
white glue
Steps:
- Combine the ingredients in a medium-size bowl to make the dough.
- Roll it up, cut it out and make fun shapes with candy molds.
