You too can make rock salt jewelry like this for Mom. Find out how below.
Children like to give their mothers with gifts of jewelry, but instead of buying it, creativity expert John Thomas suggests making it--with the help of Dad.

Jewel & Gem Goop

Materials:

2 cups rock salt
6 to 8 drops food coloring
1/2 cup white glue
bobby pin
yarn or string

Steps:

  1. Put rock salt in a medium-size bowl, add food coloring of choice, then stir in the color.

  2. Pour the glue on top of the salt in the bowl, then stir. The mixture should become rubbery.

  3. Shape the "goop" into beads. Set aside for a couple of hours until they become firm.

  4. Poke through the beads with a bobby pin to string the yarn through. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
