Materials:

wool strips - purchase wool suits from thrift stores and cut fabric into approximately 1/2" wide strips
wide, stiff mesh canvas
rug hook - optional
non-skid pad or burlap for rug backing

Steps:
  1. Draw design onto mesh canvas.
  2. Cut wool fabric into long strips measuring approximately 1/2" wide.
  3. Working with one strip of wool at a time, pull one end of the strip through a grid hole from the back of the canvas to the front. Leave the end of the strip on the front of the canvas. Begin to weave the strip into the canvas from the backside, pushing even loops of fabric up to the canvas front through each canvas grid hole. Bring the end of the strip to the front side of the canvas. Trim each end of the strip even with the loops.
  4. Continue in the same manner with additional strips until rug is complete.
  5. Cover back of rug with a non-skid pad or burlap.
