Figure D
There were several very clever and amusing items in the Shoebox today. First a letter, some pictures and some interesting as well as attractive jewelry pieces from Romaine Welch. Romaine, who's nickname is "Ro," said that her other nickname is "Macaroni Mama," and after looking at the picture frame and box top she decorated (figure A) along with the pins she sent (figure B), it is easy to understand why. All of the items were made entirely of pasta or were decorated with pasta. Ro said that she held a workshop with an art guild and brought pasta to a new level. I believe her. I don't know what she used as coloring or as finish on some of the items, but they were fascinating.

Maggie Dillon is one of the crocheters out there who got a kick out of seeing the over-the-chair arm holder we featured for holding the TV remote, VCR controls, etc . At the time we showed our fabric version, Maggie had just completed her crocheted version and she sent pictures showing it in use (figure C). Obviously, her husband thinks it's the greatest . . . no more searching. Though Maggie did not send directions, it looked as though she simply crocheted a rectangle then turned up one end about seven inches or so and stitched in several places to form pockets. It works !

Linda Omes of LaPlace, Louis., another crocheter, wrote that she was sending her Halloween witch (figure D) along in the hope that I would get a chuckle from it . . . and indeed I did! The wildly-colored witch (purple, orange, chartreuse and black) was entirely crocheted and made to do double duty in the bathroom as a cover up for that extra role of toilet paper . . . although I don't know who would have the courage to lift that witch up! Linda also sent pictures along with other witches as well as snowmen that she refers to as "the flakes." Very funny and very well made!
