Project designed by Emi Fukushima.

Materials:

Fimo soft clay
fabric - silk, cotton, rayon or any other type but sheer
roller (brayer)
tissue blade clay tool - NuBlade Kato
needle tool
leather tool
craft knife
pasta machine
lace
wax paper
gold or silver Fimo Metallic Pulver (metallic powder)
gold or silver Rub'n Buff
rubber stamp - optional
sobo glue
sand paper
buffer
Fimo lacquer
cording or pin back

Steps:

  1. Condition the clay.
  2. Roll the clay and flatten to about 1/16 inch thick. You can do this by running the clay through the pasta machine on the thickest setting several times.
  3. Place the clay on the lace and press the texture onto the clay.
  4. Cut the fabric and apply it with glue to the back of the clay.
  5. Using additional conditioned clay, make a snake and encase the edge of the fabric. Trim away any excess.
  6. Smooth the clay with your finger, and texture it using the needle tool, or use a rubber stamp to make a texture or impression if desired.
  7. Rub Fimo metallic powder into the textured or stamped clay.
  8. Bake the clay in a 265-degree oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
  9. Remove the clay and let cool.
  10. Sand and buff the edges if needed.
  11. Add Rub'n Buff for highlights if desired and glaze with lacquer.
