Shelby West grew up in middle Georgia, which is known for its traditional folk art pottery. He had made pottery in high school with some success – classmates would actually buy some of the pieces he made! Eventually he built a pottery shop in his backyard; creating his own handmade clay mixer, treadle wheel and wood burning kiln.
