On a visit to the Society of Craft Designers, crafter Joan Pompa provides a lesson with millefiori canes. She shows how to use the pre-patterned canes to create unique votive candles and shows how this technique can also be used for jewelry and ornaments.
Steps:
- Reduce the cane by rolling it and pinching.
- Cut the strip in half, and cut the resulting pieces in half again.
- Put 2 pieces together, side by side, and put other 2 halves on top and flatten.
- Wrap result with solid piece.
- Square off and then slice thinly.
- Press slices onto glass votive.
- Put coiled clay along top edge and solid piece on the bottom.
- Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees.
- Place decorated votive on cookie sheet and bake in oven for 30 minutes.
