Although Alma Stoller studied piano in college, as soon as her daughter Rose came along, it became harder for her play with any frequency. Luckily she had grown up with a seamstress for a Mom, and decided to start playing with fabric instead. The projects were easy to stop and start as time allowed, and although she had never had any lessons, she fell in love with fabric art pretty quickly.
