This little project started with a pair of shoes that belonged to a real little girl. Her mother paid $40 for them . . . that's because a crafter was clever enough to paint them with colorful designs and then charge $40.
Then we went shopping. We got a darling little dress for $6, two tiny tote bags, and five pairs of shoes . . . plus all the paint, glue, glitter, etc., for decorating. Total cost: $40!
Some of the results:.
- Pair #1
Rather than a jewelry glue, which is usually used to glue metal to another surface, we applied fabric adhesive to secure the jewels in position.
- Pair #2
The black and white designs were not painted on with a marker, but with black silk resist, the type normally used with dye. We created a contemporary design on the white shoes, then added a black ribbon bow as dressing (figure A ).
- Pair #3
The third pair of shoes also received the resist treatment, but this time, we colored the shoes with pink acrylic paint and added the required little bow (figure B).
PurseTo make this great little purse (
figure C), we applied small pieces of fabric together to form the front in a patchwork design, securing the pieces together with Heat 'n' Bond. The "stitching" that bordered each piece was done with Color Stitch dimensional paint. We gave it some life and a stand-up quality by putting a piece of cardboard in the bottom, pinching the sides together and taking a little tack.
