The Little Black Pearl Workshop, founded in 1993, is a program sponsored by the Chicago public school system designed to teach students skills in arts and crafts while exposing them to art culture, community, business and education. Participating children apply to the workshop through their school.

The Carol Duvall Show cameras focus on the 1999 "Let's Face It" summer workshop where students are working on ceramic mask making, decorative furniture painting, banner painting and design, and painting a public transit bus.

At any given time the Little Black Pearl workshop has 17 to 75 kids crafting per day. Student and staff artwork is displayed in the workshop's online gallery. The art instructors are local high school students, volunteers, and a regular staff of teachers.
