Mosaic Wall Hanging

Laurel was an apprentice to a mosaic maker some years ago. She has made projects that range from items for the home to large wall pieces. In this project, Laurel makes a house-themed wall hanging.

Materials:

glass
colored mirror
mirror
dichroic/metallic glass
glass gems
mixed media items
wooden board
glue
glass nippers
grout

1. Draw your design on paper (or trace one from a variety of sources).

2. Transfer cartoon lines to wooden board.

3. Nip and cut glass into pieces of desired sizes and shapes.

4. Place pieces on the design until the entire design is covered and all pieces fit well.

5. Lift and glue into place each piece. Allow glue to dry.

6. Choose type and color of grout. Mix according to package instructions.

7. Apply grout over entire design surface, pushing it into the grooves between the glass pieces, and then wipe off excess in several attempts until completely clean.
