Plaid Enterprises/Bucilla introduced Anna Griffin's new line of ribbon embroidery kits, ribbons, pattern transfers and tools at HIA. In true Anna Griffin style, even the scissors, thimble and needle case are exquisite, resembling Victorian brass pieces and reproduced from some Anna found for herself. She also filmed a 60-minute instructional video to help you create your own masterpieces using the tools and ribbons in your own projects. You can make beautiful pillows, linens, slippers, robes, journals, aprons, framed art and cards.

Kreinik iron-on threads became my favorite craft product when I first learned about them a few months ago. They are brilliant little things, yet so simple. If you've ever tried to sew or glue ribbon or threads in place, you know how tedious, messy and frustrating it can be. You'll also be able to fully appreciate how simple these iron-on threads are. When heated with an iron, they adhere to fabric (cold-water washable), wood, glass, paper--just about anything! They come in nearly 40 colors, sparkling and not, in solids and blends, in both 1/8" ribbon and medium #16 braid, ready for a million uses on pillows, linens, lampshades, purses, clothes and shoes, glasses and dishes, paper crafts, scrapbook projects, altered books, and just about anything else you can imagine. Check out their web site for a list of colors and step-by-step instructions to see just how easy these threads are--you can apply them in lines, curves, circles, even words! You're going to love them.

Since knitting's big comeback, I've been happy to see the resurfacing of other needle crafts as well, like crochet and embroidery. Wool & Hoop crewel embroidery kits are perfect for beginners or advanced stitchers, and the simple, modern designs are just the thing to catch the eye of hip young crafters. They come in five unique designs that can be stitched into sachets or used in framed art or cards. Each kit comes with linen background fabric, wool thread, a needle, a card and envelope and complete instructions.

Dritz had many great new things in their booth this year. In addition to new colors of the ostrich trim that I love, they also featured a new line of pursemaking supplies called Bag Boutique for create-your-own Sassy Bags. Buy the handles (28 varieties, including beaded, rope, bamboo and faux wood), the fabric button-on bag (9 different designs), and the hardware--rings, snaps, etc. to embellish or close the bag...the possibilities are endless!

Dritz's new line of Denim Details allows you to create an original denim wardrobe. Easy bleach and templates allow you to bleach designs into your denim, and their snaps, eyelets, studs, lacing and charms snap and clip onto your jeans or denim jackets to add a little pizzazz. Also check out the iron-on embroidery, Fray & Stay and Dirty Denim dye.

My favorite item in the Dritz booth was the Plan Bee quilt planning system. Imagine a day planner for quilters, including 124 beautiful color pages for quilt planning, shopping lists, brainstorming ideas, planning projects, book lists, expense records, swatch pages, address/phone directory, and more. Plus, there are storage pockets, a color wheel, cutting charts, and even more special touches like a zipper pouch, tape measure, fabric glue stick (for your swatches), a ruler, 12 colored pencils (for sketches), templates, a "Today" bookmark and a coordinating pen--all in a tailored faux suede binder. I can't believe no one has thought of this before, but I'm so glad someone has--what a beautiful resource for quilters and a fabulous gift!

Delta's new FabriCraft peel 'n' stick fabric is a wonderful new product for crafters and decorators. It's simply real fabric with adhesive backing--all you do is cut, peel and stick! Each of six collections include a large pattern, a smaller-scale print for smaller items, a stripe (for borders and accents) and a basic texture for more coverage--plus coordinating trims and booklets to get your creative juices flowing. Designs include Retro Fun, Romantic Dreams, Nurturing Garden, Paisley Fusion, Seaside Escape and the new Quilted Comfort collection--plus the Soft Essentials line of basic textured solids that complement the other lines. Cover lampshades, boxes, frames, purses, furniture, just about anything!

New from Wrights are Simple Scarf Kits that allow you to make a scarf in two hours. Rather than knitting, the kits come with a length of mesh that you just feed fibers through. The result is a one-of-a-kind scarf that looks hand knitted.

Also from Wrights, two tools to make quilting easier: The EZ View Multiplier works like a kaleidoscope in that you look at a quilt block through it in order to see how it will look multiplied into a quilt. The Flip 'n' Set ruler is a handy little tool that helps you determine the size of the border strips based on the size of the blocks your quilt has--very clever!
