Project designed by Arnold Grummer.
Materials:
Arnold Grummer's Papermill Complete Papermaking Kit or use the following materials:
mold - cookie cutter, etc.
screen
blender not used for food
sponge
paper in spring colors - reycle old flyers, mail, etc.
small bucket with water
iron
ironing pad
optional - texturizing surfaces such as ceramic tile , embossing plate, rug grip, light bulb wrapper, etc.
Steps:
- Tear paper item into pieces. Place the paper pieces in the blender, add plenty of water, and blend only a few seconds. Add dried or fresh flower petals to paper pulp.
- Pour the contents of the blender evenly into the mold (figure A).
- Place a screen over the mold and, using a sponge, blot the screen to soak up all the excess water (figure B).
- Remove the screen from the paper frame, and place reusable couch sheets on top and bottom of the paper to absorb the remaining water.
- An iron can be used at this time to dry the paper in a few minutes (figure C).
Tips:
- Be on the lookout for interesting textures to use on your next paper making project.
- Don't overlook common items like light bulb wrappers, the backs of ceramic tiles, fabrics, and felts from other craft projects.
- Be careful not to put long, stringy things in the blender because they are easily wrapped around the blade!
