Dee Gruenig demonstrates several techniques for creating stickers from photographs and stamped images by using the copy machine. This is a great way to add fun, fast and fabulous looking pages to your memory books.
Materials:
glossy sticker paper
acid-free papers for backgrounds and mats
photos or photocopies
embossing inks and powders
foam stamping pad
scratch paper
water bottle
cleaning tray
scissors
craft knife
heat tool
cutting mat
ticket stubs or other paper mementos
white ball-point correction pen
beveled ruler
copy machine with adhesive cartridge
Marvy LePlume Memory Series brush markers
Marvy LePlume Memory Series pens and metallic pens in fine and broad tips
rubber stamps: frames, banner, scroll, corners and other accessories
Steps:
- Prepare the background paper by making varied stripes either by freehand or with a beveled ruler turned upside-down, the correction pen and the Marvy LePlume Memory Series markers.
- Apply ink to the frame stamp with the brush markers or the embossing ink pad.
- Stamp down onto the sticker paper or contrasting paper. For embossing, apply firm, even pressure.
- Lift the stamp straight up to prevent the image from smearing.
- Apply the embossing powder liberally to the entire inked surface. Shake-off the excess powder by tapping the side edge of the paper to get any loose powder off.
- Using a heating tool, apply heat to the stamped, powdered frame. Move the tool around the image as the powder melts.
- Place the finished frames through a copy machine with an adhesive cartridge, and remove the protective plastic film.
- Trim the frames around the outside edges and the inside openings, leaving a tiny paper border about 1/16" wide.
- Trim the photos or copies to fit behind the frame openings, and allow for an extra 1/4" around the image.
- Place photos and any other paper mementos through the copy machine, and remove the protective plastic film.
- Remove the backing from the frames, and stick the photos in place. Remove the backing from the photos, and stick them onto the prepared background page.
- Emboss or stamp banners, corners, or other accessories as in steps #2 through #6.
- Write in the journal in a fine point metallic marker or white ball-point correction pen, and stick it in place.
Tips
- Always stamp on a flat, padded surface with an oversized piece of scrap paper underneath your project.
- The larger the stamp, the more pressure is required for a good solid impression.
- Photocopy enlargements can be copied and made into a silhouette cut to add interest to your page.
