The Not So Perfect Figure

Sew Perfect : Episode SEW-208 -- More Projects »
Guest Gale Grigg Hazen discusses how to understand your build and how to make your own personal croquis. She explains this diagram of yourself and how to use it to design clothes that look the best on you. Hazen explains how to properly measure yourself and how to get the proper fit from your clothes. She discusses fabric weight and texture needed to work on the not-so-perfect figure. While thick, crisp fabric requires designs close to the body, drapery and soft fabric requires clothes with more volume. Betzina and Hazen now concentrate on ease needed for different garments. Hazen shows how to pinch the fabric on either side of a well fitting garment to determine your true ease. Hazen shows how to fit a pattern to match a favorite garment you already own. Hazen shares few tricks of the trade by showing an easy hip alteration: You make a curved dart instead of a straight line over the heavier hip area. She then discusses the importance of shoulder pads: Shoulder pads must be extended over shoulder enough to give a proportional look to a heavier figure.
