Do you look outside and see a plain, concrete patio slab? With concrete resist instructions from our Hot Potatoes stamp expert, Mary O'Neil, that patio will transform from dull to delightful!
Materials:
L M Scofield Chemstain
L M Scofield Concrete Sealer(resist)
rubber gloves
bristle brush
large rubber stamp
masking tape
newspaper
buckets for each color of stain
Steps:
- Plan the design you want, remembering that simple is the way to go in a project of this size.
- Cover anything that you don't want to get stain on (like the side of your house or a basement wall) with newspaper.
- Lay down masking tape in an overall design, which will not be stained. Mary suggests creating a large square or diamond shape with the tape. Next, stain the entire slab and allow it to dry.
- Cover a large stamp with sealer (resist), and stamp on the slab.
- When the sealer is dry, stain the entire slab with a darker stain. The stamp impression should resist the second coat of stain. When the stain has dried, remove all masking tape.
Fabric Stamping:
Mary also took the time to demonstrate a new way of stamping on fabric. With her help, Carol stamped a lovely apron using large stamps from Hot Potatoes, and a Fabrico stamp pad. Simply ink the pad and start stamping. If you make a mistake, stamp over the image with a bigger, darker one. To make the apron washable, heat-set with an iron after applying all images.
