Steps:

1. Separate the shoe box top and bottom. Measure the outside perimeter of the bottom of the box and add two inches. Measure the height of the box side and add two inches .

2. Cut the fabric rectangle using the dimensions determined in step 1. Use the top of the box as a template and trace the shape on onto the fabric being used for the box top. Make a two-inch allowance from the traced edge and cut out the rectangle (figure A).

3. Trace the bottom of the box onto the wrong side of the suede paper. Cut out the rectangle from the inside of the traced lines.

4. Find the center point on the box top fabric and mark it with a disappearing marker or chalk on the right side of the fabric.

5. Stencil the theorem stencil design onto the fabric surface where desired, following the theorem painting instructions for fabric application (figure B).

6. Allow the oil paints to set for at least 48 hours before handling.

7. Place the painted fabric wrong side up.

8. Apply white glue on the box top edges and sides (inside and out). Use a damp sponge to spread and smooth the glue and place the top on the painted fabric with the top side down.

9. Miter the fabric at the corners to get a clean edge and complete coverage on the outer rim. Pull the fabric taut on the top using clothes pin to secure it in place (figure C).

10. Cut away and the fabric overlapping the crease on the inside of the box top. Set aside.

11. Place the box bottom lengthwise on its side and apply white glue to the edges. Use a damp sponge to spread and smooth the glue (figure D).

12. Use a fabric cutout for the bottom and lay it on top of the glued side. The bottom should have minimal overlap at the bottom and side.

13. Smooth in place and use clothespins to secure. Repeat until the ends meet.

14. Cut the length of the fabric, allowing just enough fabric to fold over and meet the starting edge of the fabric cover.

15. Miter the corners and use white glue to secure to the bottom of the box.

16. Apply white glue to the bottom edges and place suede paper on the bottom of the box (figure E).

17. Add wooden ball feet, a fabric interior, or other embellishments.
