Figure D
Project designed by Nathalie Metivier.

Materials:

Magenta lantern kit - LANT01 (large) or LANT02 (small)
four, 8-1/8-inch squares of soft, easy-to-fold paper such as mulberry paper
glue stick
scissors
needle
Magenta stamps - #14.369.N, #14.370.N
Magenta Apple Blossom card stock
Ancient Page permanent black ink pad
colored pencils
glue stick or double-sided tape
craft knife and cutting mat
ruler
raffia or other fiber to sew the sides of the lantern together

Steps:

1. Apply glue on one side of the cardboard and place it centered on the square of paper (figure A).

2. Cover the entire piece of cardboard with the paper.

3. Cut the four corners of the paper-covered cardboard at 45-degree angles (figure B). Fold and glue the top and bottom pieces to the cardboard. Fold and glue the inside corners followed by the two remaining sides.

4. Cover the three other pieces of cardboard in the same fashion.

5. Punch all pre-drilled holes with a needle or the tip of a pencil.

6. Stamp each image twice onto the card stock.

7. Cut the stamped images out. Using the craft knife and the cutting mat, cut away some parts of each stamped image to create a pattern that will be visible when the lamp is illuminated (figure C).

8. Color the images with colored pencils if desired.

9. Glue the images centered on the outside of each of the covered panels.

10. Sew the panels together with raffia or other material using a stitching technique of choice (figure D).

11. Place the finished lantern on the base.

Tip: Glue the cut images on the inside of the panels so that they are seen only when the lamp is illuminated.
