Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-448 -- More Projects » By Carol DuvallWhat's new, at the moment anyway, is a series of books from F&W Publications, that should be of interest to any crafter who is giving serious thought to going professional.
The Crafts Supply Sourcebook: A Comprehensive Shop-By-Mail Guide for Thousands of Craft Materials, by Margaret Boyd, is strictly that: page after page after page of information about supplies that you can order through the mail. If you live in a small town that simply does not have an extensive craft store around every corner, or if your store does not carry what you need, this book just might have the answer for you.
The Crafter's Guide To Pricing Your Work by Dan Ramsey. The number one question for folks who want to start selling their work is, "How do I figure out how much to charge?" This book should help. It is first broken down into different sections devoted to specific types of crafts (e.g., Needle and Fabric Crafts, Popular Crafts, Ceramic Crafts, etc.), and each section is further divided into chapters that delve into more detail on specific subjects.
After you've learned where to buy the materials you need, and you know how to price what you make, there's another book in the series to help you locate places to sell your work: Crafts Market Place - Where and How to Sell Your Crafts by Argie Manolis. This is another source book that lists page after page of craft malls, craft shows and fairs, and all kinds of similar places to contact.
And, would you believe, more adhesives? A company called American Tombow has two that were new to me. Called MonoAqua and MonoMulti, they come in unique containers that have the standard fine-tip dispenser at one end, and a sponge-like, wider dispenser at the other. Both dry clear. The MonoMulti can be used as a permanent hold glue or applied so that it gives a temporary bond.
Similarly, one of American Tombow's new roll-on adhesives affixes permanently, and another lays down a sticky line whose hold is only temporary. Although you could dispose of the dispensers when the supply runs out, I highly recommend that you don't discard them. Refills are available.
Refills are also available for 3M's new adhesive dispenser. It is larger in size than that from Tombow, and the strip of adhesive it lays down is slightly larger, but it serves the same function.
For those of you who are concerned about using non-acidic glue in your memory books, I've been told that are safe to use. It is usually the tape that is the troublemaker and not the adhesive. No tape. No acid.
