To test out some of the tools they reviewed in the first segment, Carol, Heloise and Emma Samms collaborate to make a hinged pen brush and holder. At the end, it's obvious that the equipment makes all the difference in project time and ease. Carol also points out the tool and storage chest where the show's power tools and other supplies are housed.

Materials:

piece of 2' x 2' lumber
sander from Black & Decker*
drill machine from Black & Decker*
hinges
paint or stain

Note: Carol and guest used the sander and drills that they reviewed in segment one. Other brands and models are available on the market and may also be used.

Steps:
  1. Cut lumber into four, five-inch pieces.
  2. Sand the ends of the wood until they are smooth.
  3. Drill holes, approximately three per piece, into the wood. Since these holes will hold the pen or brush, do not drill all the way through the wood.
  4. Paint or stain the wood as desired.
  5. Attach the pieces with hinges at the top and bottom.
